Benjamin Song, the former U.S. Marine Corps reservist who shot Alvarado police officer Lt. Thomas Gross in the neck during the July 4 protest at Prairieland ICE Detention Center, was captured after an 11-day manhunt. Song had fled the scene after the shooting and hidden overnight in a sunflower field before receiving help from associates.

Several people assisted Song in evading capture, including his girlfriend Joy Gibson, who was part of pre-July 4 planning and helped coordinate his escape. Lynette Sharp and John Thomas, who had been involved in pre-demonstration planning, helped Song escape from the Prairieland area after he emerged from hiding. Susan Kent also assisted in harboring Song. All four would later plead guilty to providing material support to terrorists for their roles in aiding Song's flight, facing up to 15 years in prison -- the same charge applied to people whose only involvement was attending the demonstration itself.

Song's capture set the stage for what would become the most consequential domestic terrorism prosecution of the Trump administration's second term. On July 5, the day after the shooting, Song had changed his online username to "DELETE."
