DOJ Launches Super Intelligence Task Force, Merges Its AI Task Force Into It and Asks Prosecutors to Notify It Before Charging SI Matters

The Justice Department announced on Thursday, November 5, a Super Intelligence Task Force (DOJ-SITF), led by Associate Attorney General Stanley Woodward and Associate Deputy Attorney General Stephen Weiss. The establishing memorandum, dated October 13, 2026, says the task force will “take affirmative measures, as appropriate, to promote American SI dominance,” serve as the department’s principal point of contact with the SI Force, and advise on proposals that “promote SI innovation without burdensome regulation.”

The memo merges the Artificial Intelligence Task Force, announced on January 9, 2026, into the new body. At the task force’s request, components and U.S. Attorneys’ Offices are to notify it when seeking to open an investigation and before seeking charges or finalizing a resolution in matters involving SI. The release quotes Attorney General Todd Blanche saying the task force will facilitate the department’s partnership with SI Force Chair Jay Clayton.
