New Mexico Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver Says DOJ Election Monitors Were Questioning Voters in Bernalillo County; DOJ Says Issue Resolved
On Election Day, New Mexico Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver said Justice Department monitors had been “questioning voters” in Bernalillo County, PBS reported. She told PBS NewsHour the monitors were asking “some unusual questions and doing things that are not allowed by law such as questioning voters.” Bernalillo County was the only jurisdiction in New Mexico where DOJ said it would send monitors.
A DOJ spokesperson said: “Our team had a productive call with the New Mexico secretary of state just a few minutes ago. We believe the issue is resolved and will not affect our ongoing monitoring for the rest of the day.” The same day, Michigan officials contacted DOJ about monitors questioning poll workers in Dearborn and Flint.
