New Haven Ward Officials Say a DOJ Monitor, an Assistant U.S. Attorney, Approached Voters Outside a Polling Place

On Election Day, a DOJ monitor, “an assistant U.S. attorney based in New Haven’s office,” stood in the parking lot of the Ward 26 polling place on Davis Street in New Haven for an hour. He approached 10 voters and interviewed three, according to Ward 26 Alder and the ward’s Democratic co-chair, who said “He at first would not identify himself.”

The alder said “His presence was quiet and not obtrusive,” but that it sent “a chilling message that we’re being watched by the federal government.” “The monitor did not enter the polling place,” they said.
