Michigan Officials Contact DOJ After Reports Its Election Monitors Questioned Poll Workers in Dearborn and Flint

Attorneys with the Michigan Attorney General’s Office and Department of State contacted the Department of Justice on Tuesday, Nov. 3, after receiving reports that the department’s monitors were speaking with poll workers in Dearborn and Flint, The Detroit News reported. According to a Department of State spokesperson quoted by WXYZ, monitors reportedly asked poll workers for copies of their training materials in Dearborn, and in Flint asked poll workers about how they were trained. The Department of State said there were reports of DOJ monitors in two cities “doing things outside of their scope,” and that monitors can only be in contact with the precinct captain.

The Department of State said it spoke with the DOJ liaison in Michigan, who said that was not part of their training and planned to follow up with the monitors. Dearborn and Flint are both on the list of places DOJ said it would monitor on Nov. 3; the legal fight over who those monitors are is recorded at 2026-10-16–naacp-sues-blanche-dhillon-doj-vra-11b-apa-challenge-poll-monitoring-program-dcd-26-cv-03626.
