Fulton County Asks Georgia to Let It Rescan Just Over 1,000 Early Voting Ballots After Two Scanner Problems
On Election Day, Fulton County asked the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office for permission to rescan ballots cast at two early voting locations, citing two scanner issues, WSB-TV reported. One scanner was used at the Mechanicsville Library on Oct. 21 and the other at the Hugh C. Conley Recreation Center on Oct. 26. A wheelchair ran over part of the voting machine at the Mechanicsville Library, and the machine at the Conley center displayed a scanning error message. The proposal puts just over 1,000 ballots in need of rescanning: 361 from the library and 708 from the recreation center, out of more than 328,000 ballots cast during advance voting.
A county spokesperson said the Secretary of State’s Voting System Division recommended corrective actions that would lead to the rescans. The Fulton County Board of Registration and Elections meets Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. to vote on the recommendations, and county officials said the rescanning will be conducted in public view to promote transparency.
