Utah Lt. Governor Issues Emergency Election Declaration Letting Flood-Hit San Juan County Voters Return Ballots Electronically

Utah’s Lt. Gov. issued an emergency election declaration Monday allowing San Juan County voters affected by flooding to request electronic ballots for Tuesday’s election. The San Juan Record reports the declaration cites flooding in late October and early November and says hazardous roads have made some polling places and drop boxes extremely difficult or impossible to reach. Requests had to reach the county clerk before 5 p.m. Tuesday, and Utah Public Radio reports the electronic ballot is normally reserved for military, overseas or disabled voters.

The Lt. Gov. said, “We want every eligible voter in San Juan County to be able to cast a ballot if they have not done so already.” In-person polling places and drop boxes stayed open, and Utah Public Radio reports voters who lost mail ballots could use a provisional ballot.
