Unions and Voting-Rights Groups Sue DOJ and DHS in N.D. Cal. Over Threats to Prosecute Election Workers

SEIU, AFSCME, LULAC and the NAACP filed a complaint dated October 29 in the Northern District of California against DOJ, DHS, Blanche and Mullin. The complaint alleges federal officials “threatened the criminal prosecution of state and local election” workers who process and count ballots under procedures required by law, and alleges the agencies enhanced their data “through analytics and commercially available AI of questionable reliability.” It also alleges federal marshals served one local official at home after that employee had been served at work. These are allegations, not findings. The AP reports the unions are asking a judge to temporarily block DOJ from demanding officials stop counting and to drop the threats. No ruling has been entered in anything read here.
