Wyoming AG Kautz Says State Law Bars DOJ Election Monitors From Polling Places

Wyoming Attorney General Keith Kautz, in an opinion released publicly Tuesday, concluded that “The DOJ’s general interest in monitoring compliance with federal law does not give it authority to enter a polling place where Wyoming law excludes the general public,” Cowboy State Daily reported. According to Laramie County Clerk Debra Lee, DOJ agreed to comply and “stay 100 yards away from the polling places,” and her office said DOJ monitors would be back for the Nov. 3 general election, “where the DOJ monitors say they’ll visit again.” The opinion text itself was not read for this entry.
