Hasan Piker sued Scott Jennings in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, Case 1:26-cv-03770 Document 1 Filed 10/27/26 Page 1 of 38 (the docket stamp on the complaint). The case, Piker v. Jennings, 1:26-cv-03770, is a federal diversity libel suit with a jury demand. The RECAP docket also lists a summons, a civil cover sheet and a sealed motion (Dkt. 2) about a residential address.

The counts. The complaint pleads COUNT ONE — DEFAMATION PER SE, COUNT TWO — DEFAMATION BY IMPLICATION (IN THE ALTERNATIVE) and COUNT THREE — FALSE LIGHT (IN THE ALTERNATIVE). The prayer asks for Compensatory damages in an amount not less than $27,500,000; and Punitive damages in the amount of $45,000,000; press reports add the two into one total.

The allegation. On October 29, 2024, the complaint says, Piker sarcastically voiced a conservative commentator’s argument on Twitch, introducing it with “He said.” It says a 42-second video later circulated that rearranged fragments of three broadcasts and dropped those words and his laughter. It alleges Jennings broadcast the relevant episode of his show from Washington on August 11, 2026, played that video as authentic, and put on screen PIKER: “LET’S GO BACK TO A BETTER TIME WHEN LYNCHINGS WERE HAPPENING”, words the complaint says appear in neither the original stream nor the edited video. It further quotes Jennings as referring to a “Piker plan of returning our country to lynchings,” and quotes an X post: Abdul El-Sayed’s best pal and campaign partner says the USA should resume lynchings against black people. The complaint places that post on the evening of the broadcast; Mediaite’s embedded copy of it carries the stamp — Scott Jennings (@ScottJenningsKY) August 12, 2026. The two dates are not reconciled here.

Snopes and the retraction demand. The complaint says Snopes published on August 14, 2026 and concluded the video was heavily edited, and that Piker’s counsel sent a written retraction demand on August 31, 2026 that drew an acknowledgment but no substantive response. The Snopes article itself was not fetched; only the complaint’s account of it is recorded.

Who is named. Jennings is the only defendant on the docket. The complaint refers to Salem Media’s radio network as the episode’s distributor and describes Jennings as a CNN contributor; neither is a party. Fox and Faulkner do not appear in the complaint.

Jennings’ response. No statement or court filing from Jennings turned up in this pass; the docket lists only the complaint and Dkt. 2.
