A status message posted by the FEC said its filing system had been down since around 10 p.m. ET Monday, NBC News reports. “We have a bad actor attempting to breach FEC systems,” an FEC filings officer wrote to compliance firms. The outage prevented filing 24-hour and 48-hour spending reports. CNBC reports the FEC said Tuesday night it had identified the issue, and that the system “remained offline early Wednesday.”
