Aurora City Council Falls Short of the Seven Votes Needed to Reconsider an Indefinite Data-Center Moratorium; Trident Project Would Be Exempt Either Way
On Monday, Oct. 26, 2026 (the meeting date), Aurora’s City Council fell short of the seven votes its procedure required to reconsider an indefinite moratorium on data-center applications, Sentinel Colorado reports. A bloc of council members voted against reconsideration; Mayor Mike Coffman and the other council members supported it. More than 50 people had signed up to speak for the pause. The council had rejected a six-month pause in August.
City officials said the moratorium would not impact the Trident data center at its current location or any future location, because the city has already accepted the application. Before the meeting, developer Vantage Data Centers asked the council to pause new regulations for 90 days while it evaluates other sites. Coffman said he will bring reconsideration back at the Nov. 9 meeting. The council unanimously gave final approval to removing data centers from the mixed-use office-industrial zoning areas, a change that does not affect Trident.
