Volusia County Council Adopts Ban on 50 MW-Plus Data Centers on Second Reading, 6-0 With Robins Absent

The Volusia County Council approved an ordinance on Oct. 20 banning data centers with an anticipated monthly peak electrical load of at least 50 megawatts in unincorporated Volusia County, on second and final reading (News-Journal; WKMG). The News-Journal reports the vote as 6-0, with Councilman Danny Robins absent. The ban would not apply within cities, which retain their own land-use and zoning authority (WKMG).

The planning commission (PLDRC) had voted 5-0 to continue its consideration of the ban, with deliberations continued to Nov. 19, rather than recommend the council act (West Volusia Beacon). The council voted before that continued date.

Source note: no county agenda, minutes or ordinance text was retrievable; the vote count and date rest on press. This entry records only the second reading; see the linked entry for the earlier vote.
