Paige Adamson Dies in Point Roberts After a CBP Voter-Registration Stop and a Deportation Notice

Paige Adamson, 61, a Canadian citizen and green card holder living in Point Roberts, Washington, died on Oct. 18. The Whatcom County medical examiner’s office says she “died of blood loss anemia after she fractured her right femur in a fall,” and KUOW reports it “declared her death an accident.”

On Sept. 15, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer questioned her on her way home from a birthday dinner in Canada. After six hours she was released with a notice to appear in immigration court on Nov. 4. Department of Homeland Security documents allege she “falsely represented herself” by registering to vote and voting in 2018.

KUOW reports “she was too afraid to leave her western Washington home to seek medical care, according to her son.” Her lawyer, Len Saunders, described the choice as: “Tough it out in Point Roberts and risk her medical condition, or risk being taken to the Northwest Detention Center.” That link is their account; it is not part of the medical examiner’s finding.
