WSJ Reports Bo Hines Kept a Stake in Nxum, Which Took About $6.3 Million Under a Tether Marketing Deal; Only the First Payment Came During His Government Service
The Wall Street Journal reported on Oct. 14 that Nxum, a consulting firm Bo Hines co-owned, took in about $6.3 million under a marketing deal with Tether. Hines held a one-third stake in Nxum while he was executive director of the White House digital-assets council. This entry relays secondary coverage of a paywalled WSJ article that could not be fetched; the underlying records are not public.
The money did not come all at once. The contract ran through Notorious, a marketing firm run by Peter Vincer, at $415,000 a month. The first installment, $2.49 million, left Bitfinex on May 11, 2025, while Hines was still in government. Installments of the same size landed in December 2025 and April 2026, after he left. The $6.3 million is therefore mostly post-government money, and only the first payment overlapped his White House service.
Hines resigned on August 9, 2025, and Tether announced his hire as Strategic Advisor on August 19, 2025. Nxum’s representative told the WSJ that Hines “did not receive any Tether-derived funds during that period.” Treat the stake, the payments and the denial as reported, not independently confirmed.
