Venice, FL City Council Unanimously Passes First Reading of a 12-Month Data Center Moratorium; Second Reading Set for Oct. 27

Venice City Council unanimously passed the first reading of a moratorium on data center development, and it would last 12 months if enacted (WWSB, Oct. 13). A second reading and final vote were set for Oct. 27.

The ordinance taken up at first reading calls for a 12-month hold, not the 18 months the Council voted for (Venice Sun preview). It would pause applications for facilities serving large-load customers, defined at 50 megawatts or more of peak load (Venice Sun).

Stage: first reading only. Agenda, minutes and ordinance text were not retrieved.
