ICE Agent Strikes Miguel Parra-Hernandez With a Vehicle in Houston Pursuit; Sheriff and ICE Give Different Accounts
On Saturday a man was struck by a vehicle driven by an ICE agent who was allegedly pursuing him and another man, Texas law enforcement officials and ICE said (ABC News). Harris County Sheriff’s Office Major Anthony McConnell said the man was 48 years old and was in ICE custody, and that the agent was “trying to box him in to the backside of the building at the corner and struck the passenger.” ICE alleged in a statement that “Parra-Hernandez ran in front of an ICE vehicle and was struck.” Surveillance video reviewed by ABC News appears to show the agent maneuvering his vehicle in the direction of the man running and striking him with the vehicle.
Cesar Espinosa, executive director of FIEL Houston, said the man is supposed to undergo surgery for a leg “broken in three places.” ICE said it was conducting a targeted enforcement operation to arrest another man, whom it said was driving the vehicle; the spokesperson said that man had a criminal history in Dallas County. Texas Public Radio reports that a search of local court records did not return any criminal cases against that man in Dallas County or Harris County.
ABC reports the incident came two days after ICE agents shot a man inside his car with his 5-year-old son in the backseat in New York City during an attempted arrest.
