Netanyahu's UN General Assembly Speech Addresses NYC Mayor Mamdani Directly and Cites Streamer Hasan Piker's 2019 '9/11' Remark as Proof of Mamdani's Friends
On September 24, 2026 (speech date), Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the UN General Assembly: “Mr. Mamdani, since you were elected mayor of this city, many Jews no longer feel safe in New York.” Snopes, transcribing the video, gives the sentence that follows as beginning “You count as friends people like Hasan Piker, who said” and then quotes Piker’s 2019 words, repeated twice, that America deserved 9/11.
Who the second person is. The passage opens by naming Mamdani, and the speech returns to the same address: “Mr. Mamdani, you tried to stop me from coming here.” The person addressed is New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, addressed by name from the podium. Piker is named in the third person.
The quoted remark. Snopes places Piker’s original statement in August 2019, on a Twitch livestream.
Sourcing note. The primary record is the UN’s video of the statement (listed above), which the author of this entry could not play; the UN page’s own text summary does not contain the Piker line. The Piker wording is taken from Snopes’s transcription of the video. The UN page labels its machine transcript as not an official record. Outlets spell the streamer’s name both ways.
