DHS OIG Publishes Its May 2025 Krome Inspection: 1,102 Detainees Against a Maximum Capacity of 882, 25 Percent Over

DHS OIG’s report on Krome North Service Processing Center is dated September 11, 2026. The inspection it describes was conducted May 28 to 29, 2025.

On the first day, there were 1,102 detainees at a facility with a maximum capacity of 882; OIG put the overage at 25 percent. That produced overcrowded intake hold rooms and housing units and detainees held in intake for more than 12 hours. OIG also found that Krome staff did not “provide the minimum required number of operational toilets, sinks, and showers,” among other noncompliance with detention standards. OIG made nine recommendations, and ICE concurred with all 9.

Krome was previously inspected by OIG in June 2023 (OIG-24-21).
