Date kinds. Anthropic’s report is dated September 10, 2026. The case gives no dates for the GTG-04001 activity; the report’s overview refers to “the past eight months” for all its cases. The INPACT piece carries the page date 20.02.2026 (publication, day.month.year); the meeting it describes between Politology’s head and SVR agents is dated December 15, 2023 by INPACT (activity, as INPACT reports it).

What Anthropic says in its own voice

Anthropic says it removed an account run by a Russian-speaking actor in Bangui who produced content for a Russian state-aligned operation targeting the Central African Republic. In the report’s account, the actor ran a daily content operation through Radio Lengo Songo (98.9 FM), coordinated with RT, Sputnik Afrique, TASS and the Russian House in Bangui. Anthropic writes that its investigation linked the actor to Politology, “assessed to have come under the control of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) in late 2023”, and “We assess that the individual was acting as Politology’s local media coordinator on the ground.” It calls the operation “a Russian state-directed covert operation”. It rates the case Category Four on the Breakout Scale (daily FM broadcast, Telegram amplification, carried by local outlets). On Anthropic’s action: it removed the account and “the organization behind this activity” and built automated detections from the behavioral signatures. It also says Claude refused the operation’s most aggressive request (naming real individuals as militants) and the actor switched to anonymous-source framing. Other activity it describes includes Claude-generated staff contracts and scoring rubrics, a tracking effort on CAR opposition figures, talking points for Russian House spokespeople, and forged Gendarmerie and Ministry of Defense documents.

The report’s phrasing on SVR control is a passive assessment (“assessed to have come under”): it does not say who made the assessment or on what evidence. The case does not set out the evidence behind the SVR-control assessment.

What Anthropic reports others saying

Anthropic cites All Eyes On Wagner for the claim that the radio station “was created and funded by the Wagner Group in 2017”, and says the group’s tip started its review and “independently confirmed the identities of the individuals involved”. That is a statement that INPACT’s reporting on the individuals was independently confirmed. The report does not say Anthropic independently confirmed the SVR-control assessment.

The INPACT/All Eyes on Wagner piece (page date 20.02.2026; consortium: Forbidden Stories, Dossier Center, iStories, openDemocracy) says that after Prigozhin’s death “Africa Politology started to work in concert with the SVR”. Its specific claims about named SVR officers rest on sources it describes as “a reliable source consulted by Forbidden Stories” and on leaked documents; and it dates a meeting between Politology’s head and SVR agents to December 15, 2023. INPACT’s page ties the takeover to the period after Prigozhin’s death in August 2023, with a December 2023 meeting; this is consistent with Anthropic’s “late 2023”, but the INPACT page does not use that phrase.

How OpenAI and Anthropic frame Politology

OpenAI’s Dark Clark report (October 8, 2026; see 2026-10-08–openai-disrupts-dark-clark-russian-false-front-think-tank-latin-america) names no state sponsor and says only that the evidence in two cases “ties the operators to public reporting on” Politology. Anthropic states Politology’s SVR control inside its own assessment and ties its actor to Politology by its own investigation. The cases are different operations (Latin America front vs. a Bangui radio operation); the Anthropic report has no Dark Clark or Latin America Politology case. Both use a six-category Breakout Scale (OpenAI: Dark Clark Category 5; Anthropic: GTG-04001 Category Four). Attribution chain context: 2026-10-15-dark-clark-politology-attribution-chain.

Not established here: the report does not say the actor was a Russian state employee, only that the operation was “Russian state-directed” in Anthropic’s characterization; the case does not name the evidence behind the SVR-control assessment.
