CalPrivacy Fines Data Broker SalesIntel Research $36,400 for Failing to Register on Time
The California Privacy Protection Agency (CalPrivacy) Board issued a decision on September 1, 2026 requiring SalesIntel Research, Inc., a Virginia-based data broker, to pay a $36,400 fine for failing to register timely with the state’s Data Broker Registry. SalesIntel Research sells consumers’ personal information — CalPrivacy’s own release cites more than 200 million professional contacts, 54 million mobile phone numbers, and inferences about individuals’ career changes, marketed for targeted advertising — including a “de-anonymization” product that identifies which accounts are researching a company’s website and returns the associated person’s direct-dial number and verified email. As with Cybba, the CalPrivacy release describes the violation as a registration-timing failure; it does not allege the excessive-data-demand conduct found in the LocateSmarter case. The decision requires SalesIntel Research to post privacy-rights metrics on its website, access CalPrivacy’s Delete Request and Opt-Out Platform (DROP), and process future deletion requests through it.
