Lake Worth Beach’s city commission scheduled an August 18, 2026 vote on a 10-year contract extension with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office worth roughly $16 million per year, which immigration advocates argue functions as a vehicle for ICE collaboration. At an August 13 press conference, advocates cited the deportation of Olga Perez, a community interpreter who left four U.S.-citizen children behind, as a direct consequence of existing PBSO-ICE cooperation. Commissioner Christopher McVoy publicly opposed the contract structure. Palm Beach County ranks 10th of 100 counties on the detention-pipeline heat index, in the 91st percentile.
