Jake Lang and Pastor Lorenzo Sewell, a Member of Mike Rogers's Senate Campaign Faith Leadership Team, Lead 'Christian Crusader March' on Dearborn City Council; 22 Arrested

On Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2026 (event date), pardoned Jan. 6 defendant Jake Lang and Detroit pastor Lorenzo Sewell staged a “Christian Crusader March on Dearborn City Council Meeting” at the council’s meeting, which the city had moved to the Henry Ford Centennial Library. Both men posted the announcing poster on their own social media pages (CBS Detroit), and both Michigan Advance and the Fox station describe them as co-organizers. Michigan Advance counted approximately 2,000 protesters and counterprotesters. Dearborn police made 22 arrests, and Lang told the council that Muslims “are looking to destroy us.”

The Rogers link. Michigan Advance identifies Sewell as a member of the Faith Coalition Leadership Team of Republican U.S. Senate nominee Mike Rogers. The Rogers campaign’s own release lists Sewell on its “Faith Leaders for Mike Rogers” senior leadership team, volunteers who do outreach to faith communities; the release page shows no year in its date line. The El-Sayed campaign, Rogers’s Democratic opponent, demanded before the rally that Rogers disavow it. That is an opposing campaign’s demand, not a finding.

Not established. Wider church support for the march. Mayor Hammoud and other local religious leaders rejected the marchers’ framing the day before. The leadership-team listing and the co-organizing role are separate facts about one man; they are not evidence that the campaign directed the march.

Pattern context: a Christian-nationalist street mobilization linked, through one pastor, to a major-party Senate campaign’s faith-outreach apparatus, in a race where the Democratic nominee is Muslim. This is a shared-membership fact, not evidence of coordination.
