Brazos County Transfers RELLIS Data Center Abatement to ThisWay Global, Returning Half the Value to Tax Rolls

Brazos County commissioners voted 4-0 on August 18, 2026 to transfer an existing tax abatement agreement to ThisWay Global, Inc., which acquired the bankrupt $700 million RELLIS campus data center. The commissioners had tabled the same vote on August 5, two weeks earlier — the delay is part of the record, not a formality. The transfer carries a fiscal consequence the county gains rather than gives: it returns half the project’s value to the tax rolls, reversing a prior non-taxable status that attached to the land through the Texas A&M University System.

That reversal is the reason this is worth recording. Here a bankruptcy and a change of owner did what a policy fight has not: it reopened a settled tax status and moved half a $700 million project from untaxed to taxed. The transfer lands inside a Texas policy environment that tightened over the same summer.
