CoreCivic's SEC Filings Put the Appleton Prison Sale to DHS at About $495.6 Million

On August 4, 2026, CoreCivic entered into an agreement to sell its Prairie Correctional Facility in Appleton, Minnesota, to “the United States of America and its assigns, by and through the Department of Homeland Security.” Its current report gives the price as approximately $495.6 million and the Midwest Regional Reception Center in Leavenworth, Kansas, as approximately $238.4 million. The filing says the Prairie facility “has been idle since 2010.”

The quarterly report’s idle-facilities table, in thousands of dollars, lists a June 30 net carrying value of 26,683 for Prairie. A carrying value is an accounting figure, not a price. The report says the management contracts “expire in August 2031” for Prairie. The earlier offer to the state and the exact price are in the update on the contract entry (2026-08-04–corecivic-536m-contract-reopen-appleton-mn-prairie-correctional).
