RNC Demands Michigan Poll Workers' Home Addresses and Medical Records — Benson Partially Denies

The Republican National Committee filed a FOIA request with Michigan’s Secretary of State on July 31 demanding the full personal records of every citizen enrolled in the state’s Democracy MVP poll-worker program: home addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, and medical or disability status. Secretary Jocelyn Benson partially denied the request on August 3, releasing redacted records but withholding identifying details; the RNC can appeal.

The request lands in the same period as DOJ’s own voter-roll data campaign against Michigan, where Benson’s office won the first appellate defeat DOJ suffered in that fight (2026-06-24–sixth-circuit-doj-first-appellate-loss-voter-rolls-michigan). Where DOJ sought bulk voter data through litigation, the RNC’s FOIA targets a much narrower, more exposed population — poll workers themselves, whose home addresses and medical status have no plausible election-administration use but a well-documented history as inputs to targeted harassment campaigns. Tracking whether the RNC appeals, and whether similar poll-worker-specific FOIA requests surface in other swing states before the November midterms, is the next signal to watch.
