Gov. Abbott Freezes Texas Data Center Grid Connections, Orders ERCOT/PUCT Audit

Gov. Greg Abbott directed the Public Utility Commission of Texas and ERCOT on August 3, 2026 to audit every data center in the grid interconnection queue before approving new connections, immediately freezing large-load tie-ins statewide. ERCOT suspended its “Batch Zero Large Load” classification notifications that had been scheduled for August 7, halting grid access for active Texas projects from Meta, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and xAI.
