Trump Says U.S. Has Collected More Than $13 Billion From Venezuelan Oil Sales; Rubio Told Congress the Money Is Held in a Citibank Account
President Donald Trump told reporters that the U.S. has collected more than $13 billion from the sale of Venezuelan oil, per CNBC (publication date of the report). Secretary of State Marco Rubio told Congress in June that the oil sales are audited by KPMG. The money is held in a Citibank account, Rubio said.
Other documents, undated here by design: PolitiFact reports that a July 22 Financial Times analysis estimated that the U.S. has collected about $13 billion in Venezuelan oil revenue, and that an executive order said oil revenue would be held in U.S. government accounts in a “custodial and governmental capacity.” PolitiFact also reports: Neither government has produced a single, easy-to-locate and up-to-date dollar amount of how much oil revenue has been generated, nor who has received the money. House Oversight Democrats, in a press release, cited recent reporting that Venezuelan oil revenue now exceeds $13,000,000,000.
