ICE Agent Christian Castro Arrested in Texas on Hennepin County Warrant; DHS Calls It a 'Political Stunt'

ICE agent Christian Castro was “arrested in Texas Friday morning,” the county said in a release dated 5/29/2026, on the Hennepin County warrant that followed the state’s charges (2026-05-18–hennepin-county-charges-ice-agent-castro-second-degree-assault-false-report-sosa-celis-shooting) for the Jan. 14, 2026 shooting of Julio Sosa-Celis (2026-01-14–ice-agent-shoots-julio-sosa-celis-north-minneapolis-dhs-says-three-attackers-partner-says-nothing-grabbed).

The county’s release: “He was arrested by Texas Rangers with the BCA investigators and DHS staff present at the scene.” It adds that “An ICE Office of Professional Responsibility officer - a division within DHS - was present at the scene,” and carries a correction: “A previous version of this release referenced staff of the DHS Office of Inspector General at the scene, which that office has denied.”

CNN reports the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension told it Castro was “arrested Friday morning in Harlingen, Texas, ‘without incident,’” and that he was “booked into Texas’ Cameron County Jail on his Minnesota arrest warrant.”
