Colorado Repeals and Reenacts Its AI Act as an Automated-Decision-Making Law That Takes Effect in January 2027, While the xAI and DOJ Suit Sits Stayed
The General Assembly’s bill page lists the signed act on the signing date. The act’s own text sets its general effective date at the start of 2027. The bill summary says the act repeals and reenacts the 2024 provisions.
The earlier operative date the research file carried for Colorado’s statute is superseded. The new law covers automated decision-making technology used in consequential decisions, and the Attorney General is directed to adopt implementing rules on or before the effective date.
The stay order in the xAI case also covers legislation replacing or amending the old act. Whether the signing starts xAI’s clock for a preliminary-injunction motion is a question for the docket.
