Body Camera Footage and Agent Texts Released in Marimar Martinez Case, Showing CBP Steered Into Her Vehicle and Bragged About Shooting

U.S. District Judge Georgia Alexakis’s court-ordered release of body-camera footage, text messages, emails, and surveillance video in the Marimar Martinez case revealed that CBP Agent Charles Exum steered his vehicle toward Martinez immediately before their collision — directly contradicting the government’s claim that Martinez rammed federal agents. Three videos (15–20 minutes each) from agents Adam J. Perkins and Lorenzo Cordero (Exum’s camera was not activated during the actual shooting) showed: agents with weapons drawn one minute before impact; an agent saying “it’s time to get aggressive” and “we’re going to make [it look like she] boxed in”; Exum pulling his steering wheel left toward Martinez before the vehicles collided; and Exum exiting his vehicle and firing five shots as Martinez drove away. Released texts showed Exum bragging to fellow agents: “I fired 5 round and she had 7 holes. Put that in your book boys.” A fellow agent replied: “good shootin, lol.” Exum responded: “gracias senor.” Exum also said on camera about the incident: “We did not get shot at. We did the shooting.” Separately, Operation Midway Blitz commander Gregory Bovino had emailed Exum hours after the shooting praising his “excellent service.” Martinez’s attorney Christopher Parente stated the government’s behavior constituted a “misguided smear campaign.” The government had opposed the evidence release, citing “sensitive material.” A CBP surveillance report released the same day revealed that the agency had flagged Martinez as a potential “threat to officers” five days before the shooting, based on her resharing an “ICE watch” Facebook post. The evidence release confirmed the civilian’s account and contradicted every element of the government’s original public narrative about the October 4, 2025 shooting.
