Trump Sues the BBC for $10 Billion Over a Documentary Edit; Jury Trial Set for February 2027, Mediation the Week of October 26
Trump sued the BBC in the Southern District of Florida on Dec. 15, 2025, seeking $10 billion in damages for defamation and deceptive and unfair trade practices over the documentary “Trump: A Second Chance”. The BBC admitted filmmakers spliced together quotes from different sections of his January 6, 2021 speech and apologized, and denies that it defamed him. No money has been paid: this is a pending suit, not a settlement, and it belongs in the ledger only as the next candidate.
Where it stands: the court set a jury trial for 2/15/2027, ordered mediation with John W. Thornton at JAMS the week of October 26, 2026, and discovery closes December 18, 2026. In mid-October 2026 the BBC asked the court to compel Trump’s deposition after his counsel cancelled the agreed October 16 date, citing “matters of national importance”.
