In a court filing, the Department of Justice admitted it had released only 12,285 documents (approximately 125,575 pages) of the 5.2 million pages under review—less than 1% of Epstein-related materials. This represented a massive violation of the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which required release of all documents within 30 days of signing (by December 19, 2025). DOJ stated it did not expect to release more documents until January 20 or 21, 2026. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer stated the admission 'shows Bondi, Blanche, and others at the DOJ have been lying to the American people about the Epstein files since day one.' The DOJ continued to defy the law even as lawmakers threatened contempt proceedings against Attorney General Pam Bondi.
